The concept of health insurance in Islam is examined through the perspective of maqashid shariah, specifically the aspect of hifdz al-nafs (preservation of life), which aims to safeguard human life. This study employs a literature review method, gathering and analyzing data from written sources. The focus of the research highlights the relationship between health and hifdz al-nafs, emphasizing health as a critical factor in sustaining human life. The discussion includes the views of Islamic scholars regarding the legality of health insurance in Islam and the fundamental principles of Islamic insurance (takaful), such as the tabarru’ contract, the principle of mutual assistance, and the management of funds in accordance with Islamic law. This article also outlines the significant role of health insurance in alleviating the burdens of the community, particularly in medical emergencies, by providing financial protection that facilitates access to healthcare services. Moreover, health insurance is considered to contribute to improving the quality of life for Muslims through preventive measures and long-term protection against health risks. Therefore, Sharia-compliant health insurance is not only practically relevant but also aligns with the primary objectives of maqashid shariah in preserving the well-being and life of humanity.
