Penyakit gondok sebagai akibat dari defisiensi yodium
Abstract
Goiter, or struma, is an enlargement of the thyroid gland caused by iodine deficiency, one of the major nutritional problems in Indonesia. Iodine deficiency significantly impacts health, particularly in children and breastfeeding mothers, and can lead to various complications such as hypothyroidism and cretinism. This study aims to examine the definition, etiology, symptoms, pathophysiology, as well as prevention and treatment methods for goiter. The results indicate that goiter can be addressed through primary prevention by educating the community on the importance of iodine intake, early detection through medical examinations, and treatment, including regular monitoring and therapy based on the type of goiter. Public awareness of the importance of balanced nutrition is crucial to reducing the prevalence of this disease and improving the quality of human resources in Indonesia.
