Abstract

The Lapindo mudflow that occurred in Sidoarjo, East Java in 2006 was the only largest environmental disaster that ever occurred in Indonesia. This disaster caused many negative impacts in various aspects, including environmental damage, soil and water pollution, which triggered ecosystem damage. This article uses a systematic literature review methodology whose function is to identify the occurrence of ecosystem damage due to the Lapindo mudflow by reviewing articles from different sources. The mud that continues to flow carries many hazardous substances, including very high levels of gas and heavy metals. Water also contains hazardous substances in the mud that can damage the surrounding ecosystem. Hazardous substances are toxic to living organisms if absorbed into the body can cause death. However, there are also some creatures that can still survive. This results in the phenomenon of bioconcentration in the ecological food chain and long-term mud pollution will continue to damage terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
