Abstract

The Islamic banking industry in Indonesia faces complex challenges in risk management in accordance with sharia principles. This study aims to analyze the implementation of risk management in Islamic Commercial Banks (BUS), with a focus on identifying types of risks, management strategies, and challenges in their implementation. There are ten main types of risks faced by BUS, eight of which are similar to conventional banking risks, and two others are sharia-specific, such as return risk and investment risk. The risk management process in BUS is carried out systematically through five main stages: identification, measurement, monitoring, control, and risk reporting. Although regulations from the OJK and Bank Indonesia have provided a policy framework, implementation in the field is still constrained by limited human resources, technology, and harmonization between regulations and sharia principles. The results of this study indicate the need for a more integrated and sharia-based risk management approach, in order to improve the effectiveness of supervision and maintain the stability and sustainability of BUS amidst the dynamics of the financial industry.
