Sejarah keterlibatan dalam gerakan non-blok

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) emerged as a response to global polarization during the Cold War, when the world was divided between the Western and Eastern blocs. Many developing countries, including Indonesia, sought to avoid being entangled in ideological conflicts while maintaining their sovereignty and independence in foreign policy. This article addresses the historical and strategic role of Indonesia in the formation and development of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as its contribution to promoting global solidarity and justice. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach, this study examines historical sources and relevant literature to analyze Indonesia’s involvement, particularly through the 1955 Asian–African Conference and the implementation of its “free and active” foreign policy principle. The findings indicate that Indonesia played a significant role in advancing the values of solidarity, anti-colonialism, and cooperation among developing countries, while also acting as a diplomatic bridge in global politics. In conclusion, the principles and spirit of the Non-Aligned Movement championed by Indonesia remain relevant in addressing contemporary multipolar geopolitical challenges, especially in fostering a more just, inclusive, and balanced global order.
