Abstract

The mental health crisis in Indonesia, especially among teenagers, is increasingly rising due to social pressure, technological advances, and high life expectations. This phenomenon encourages the emergence of self-healing practices as an alternative recovery method, which is often shallow and temporary due to a lack of understanding of the root causes. The purpose of this study is to examine the interpretation of al-Ma‘ānī on Q.S. Al-Qiyamah verse 2 and its correlation with Freud's psychoanalysis in forming the concept of self-awareness. The method used is a qualitative literature-based study. The results show that al-nafs al-lawwāmah in the Tafseer al-Ma‘ānī is understood as the soul that regrets and self-corrects, in line with the function of the Ego in Freud's psychoanalysis, which acts as a mediator between the Id and Superego. Both merge to form the concept of self-awareness that is psychological, moral, and transcendental. This concept contributes to encouraging self-reflection, behavioral improvement, and soul balance, making it potentially a more meaningful and profound alternative for mental recovery.
