The Role of Philosophy of Science in Information Validation in the Digital Era
Abstract
The digital era is characterized by a very rapid and abundant flow of information, thus creating new challenges related to assessing the truth and validity of information. The presence of disinformation, misinformation, and hoaxes further exacerbates the situation, because these phenomena can weaken public trust and the appearance of the boundary between opinion and fact becomes blurred. The philosophy of science has three main foundations, namely ontology, epistemology, and axiology. However, this research as a whole is more focused on the study of the epistemological aspect as a conceptual foundation for addressing the information validation crisis in the digital era. This research applies the literature study method by examining various written sources in the form of articles, scientific journals, and other documents relevant to the discussion topic related to the role of philosophy of science in validating information in the digital era. The findings of this study indicate that philosophy of science can play a role as a basis for critical thinking in determining the validity of information, including in assessing the level of standards and criteria of truth that apply in the digital realm. Thus, the main objective of this research is to analyze and understand the extent of the development of philosophy of science in the process of validating information in the current digital era
