Penerapan model problem based learning (pbl) dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematika siswa madrasah

Abstract

This research aims to examine the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding of mathematics in madrasah. Conceptual understanding is a fundamental aspect of mathematics education, yet students often encounter obstacles due to teacher-centered instructional practices. Adopting a descriptive qualitative approach, the study employed observation, interviews, and documentation conducted in a junior Islamic school in East Java. The findings indicate that PBL reinforces conceptual comprehension through stages of problem identification, information exploration, group discussion, and solution presentation. Students became more engaged, demonstrated the ability to connect basic concepts with real-life contexts, and articulated mathematical procedures in their own words. Theoretically, this study contributes to the development of tadris mathematics by affirming the effectiveness of PBL, while practically it offers recommendations for teachers to implement instructional models that emphasize problem-solving and independent learning, thereby fostering deeper mathematical understanding among madrasah students.
