Peran literasi digital dalam mencegah disinformasi dan hoaks di media sosial: upaya membangun masyarakat yang kritis dan cerdas
Abstract
The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed the way people communicate, particularly through the widespread use of social media. On the one hand, social media facilitates easier access to information, but on the other hand, it also creates vast opportunities for the spread of disinformation and hoaxes. Digital literacy has become a crucial instrument in developing individuals’ abilities to understand, evaluate, and verify information circulating in digital spaces. This study aims to analyze the role of digital literacy in reducing the dissemination of false information and in encouraging the formation of a critical and informed society in the use of social media. This research adopts a qualitative approach through a literature review of scholarly sources and research reports. The findings indicate that digital literacy involves not only technical skills in using digital technology, but also critical thinking abilities, digital ethics, and social responsibility in sharing information. Continuous strengthening of digital literacy is expected to enable society to become more wise, selective, and responsible users of social media.
