Dari marginalisasi ke pemberdayaan: peran pengetahuan lokal masyarakat adat dalam menghidupkan ekologi

Abstract

Indigenous local knowledge plays a central role in environmental conservation and community empowerment. Despite often facing marginalization due to modern development policies, global market pressures, and extractive industry expansion such as palm oil plantations and mining, this traditional wisdom has proven highly effective in maintaining ecosystem sustainability and managing natural resources sustainably. Passed down through generations, indigenous knowledge contains ecological principles highly relevant to conservation, climate change mitigation, and environmental adaptation. Through legal recognition, integration into national policies like the controversial Job Creation Law, and empowerment of indigenous communities based on their local knowledge, an inclusive, participatory, and socially just environmental management model can be established. This approach not only addresses significant environmental challenges such as massive deforestation in Indonesia but also strengthens cultural identity and significantly improves the social and economic welfare of indigenous peoples through sustainable ecotourism, agroforestry, and marketing of non-timber forest products.
