Menutup aurat di era modern: antara syari’at dan lifestyle
Abstract
The phenomenon of covering aurat in the modern era is not only perceived as a religious obligation but has also evolved into a lifestyle trend. This study aims to explore the dynamics between Islamic teachings and social trends that shape public perceptions of Muslim fashion. Using a qualitative approach, the research highlights how spiritual values interact with modernization, social media, and the fashion industry. Findings reveal that covering aurat today functions not only as a symbol of obedience but also as cultural identity and personal expression. This emphasizes that the practice of covering aurat in the modern era represents a convergence between Shari’a and lifestyle, complementing one another. The main challenge for today's Muslim women is balancing spiritual demands, ethical dress, and the ever-changing dynamics of modernity. Therefore, the hijab should ideally be understood as a form of obedience born of faith, not simply following trends or social pressure.
