Efektivitas program ma’had ditinjau dari teori humanistik dan self-determination dalam pembentukan kepribadian ulul albab mahasiswa UIN Malang
Abstract
This study analyzes the effectiveness of the Ma’had program at UIN Malang in developing the Ulul Albab character through Maslow’s Humanistic Theory and the Self-Determination Theory. The Ma’had program aims to strengthen students’ spiritual discipline and religious practices. However, some students perceive it as less effective because it is held at night after a full day of regular classes, leading to physical and mental fatigue. Humanistic theory is used to explain the importance of fulfilling basic needs—such as rest and psychological comfort—before effective learning can occur. Meanwhile, Self-Determination Theory explains the role of intrinsic motivation and students’ awareness when choosing UIN Malang along with the Ma’had obligations it entails. The findings indicate that the effectiveness of Ma’had depends on the balance between students’ physical readiness and their intrinsic motivation to seek knowledge. Students with high intrinsic motivation tend to participate more effectively, while those whose basic needs are unmet often struggle. Thus, both theories complement each other in understanding the internal and external factors influencing the success of the Ma’had program.
