Kajian ketakterhinggaan matematis dan relevansinya dengan ketidakterbatasan tuhan
Abstract
The concept of infinity is one of the most important themes in the history of mathematics, appearing in calculus, set theory, and discussions in the philosophy of mathematics. This concept functions not only as a tool of mathematical analysis but also possesses philosophical value that connects human thought to metaphysical ideas about God as the Absolutely Infinite. Through a literature-based study, this article examines the concept of infinity in mathematics based on the ideas of Zeno, Aristotle, Wallis, and Cantor, who introduced transfinite numbers and aleph-null as a measure of the cardinality of infinite sets. Furthermore, this article explores the relationship between mathematical infinity and the concept of divine infinity in Islam, highlighting divine attributes such as Qidam (eternity without beginning), Baqa’ (everlastingness), and God’s omnipotence, which cannot be equated with mathematical infinity. The analysis shows that mathematical infinity is abstract, well-defined, and classifiable, whereas divine infinity is absolute, non-computational, and cannot be mapped onto set-theoretical structures or numerical systems. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between types of mathematical infinity and the metaphysical concept of absolute infinity in Islamic theology.
