Peran proses adaptasi di pesantren terhadap resiliensi dan kesehatan mental santri baru
Keywords:
Adaptation, boarding school, resilience, mental health, new studentsAbstract
New students living in Islamic boarding schools face significant changes in routines, rules, and social interactions, requiring an intensive adaptation process. Failure to adapt can potentially lead to stress, anxiety, interpersonal conflict, and reduced mental health. Therefore, an understanding of how the adaptation process occurs and how it affects students' psychological resilience is necessary. This study aims to identify the adaptation experiences of new students and the role of supporting factors that strengthen their resilience and mental health. The research method used a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews and observations of new students. The results showed that students experienced stress in the initial phase, such as homesickness, fear of being judged, low self-esteem, and complex friendship dynamics. However, support from peers, seniors, and the Islamic boarding school's activity system were important factors in building adaptive coping, increasing self-confidence, and fostering independence. The adaptation experience also helped students develop self-understanding, emotional regulation, and responsible behavior. Overall, the adaptation process was proven to play a role in strengthening resilience and maintaining the mental health of new students. This study emphasizes the need for an early adaptation mentoring program as a preventative measure.
