The Role of Routine Religious Activities (Burdah, Maulid Diba', and Public Religious Studies) in Strengthening Social Cohesion in the Jodipan Village Community
Abstract
This study examines the role of routine religious activities in the form of Burdah, Maulid Diba', and public religious gatherings in strengthening social cohesion in Jodipan Village community. Religious activities in Indonesia function not only as a means of fulfilling spiritual needs, but also as a medium for social interaction that instills values of togetherness and solidarity. Nevertheless, there is a gap in regulations that place religious activities in the private sphere without normative recognition of their social function. This research uses a qualitative approach with sociological analysis to understand the contribution of religious practices as social capital. The results show that Burdah and Maulid Diba' serve as builders of solidarity and collective identity through intense and repeated social interactions. Public religious gatherings function as spaces for social integration that bring together residents across different backgrounds and strengthen the values of togetherness. Overall, routine religious activities have proven to be effective instruments in strengthening social cohesion through the formation of social networks, internalization of shared values, and strengthening of religious social capital that binds residents emotionally and functionally within the community.
