Abstract

The development of modern technology has brought about major changes in the way humans acquire and interpret knowledge. In this context, the study of epistemology is crucial to examine how Western and Islamic traditions contribute to the understanding of science. Western epistemology tends to emphasize rationality and empirical experience as the basis of knowledge, while Islamic epistemology integrates revelation, reason, and intuition, resulting in a more comprehensive approach. This research employed a literature review method, examining literature discussing Islamic and Western epistemology. The results indicate that Islamic epistemology has three main approaches: bayani (textual), burhani (rational), and irfani (intuitive), while Western epistemology focuses more on rational and empirical verification. Both approaches have their respective advantages and can complement each other. The integration of Islamic and Western epistemologies is expected to produce a scientific paradigm relevant to the challenges of the technological revolution. Their collaboration will not only address the needs of modern technology but also uphold the values ​​of humanity and monotheism. By combining Western rationality and systematization with the spiritual dimension and values ​​of Islam, science can develop in a balanced way, so that it answers practical needs but is also able to maintain aspects of humanity and faith.
