Abstract

This study aims to analyze the state of tolerance and multiculturalism in Indonesia in the modern era, identify the challenges faced, and explore opportunities to strengthen these values. The approach used was descriptive qualitative through literature study, collecting data from journals, books, and other relevant sources. The results indicate that tolerance in Indonesia remains superficial, where people can live side by side but do not yet fully understand diversity in depth. The main challenges include the impact of globalization, the rampant spread of hoaxes and hate speech through social media, and low awareness of the importance of multicultural values. Nevertheless, Indonesia has great potential to strengthen tolerance through the implementation of multicultural education, the positive use of technology, and the strengthening of local religious and cultural values. With proper management, diversity can become a strategic resource for strengthening national unity. Therefore, collaboration between society, the government, and educational institutions is needed to continuously instill the values of tolerance and multiculturalism.
