Toleransi sebagai pilar utama dalam membangun masyarakat multikultural di Indonesia
Abstract
This research examines the central role of tolerance as a foundation in strengthening the structure of multicultural society in Indonesia. As a country with high ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity, Indonesia faces significant challenges in maintaining social integration amidst potential horizontal conflicts. Using a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach, this study explores how the values of tolerance are implemented in social and state life. The results show that tolerance is not merely a passive attitude of allowing differences but an active engagement in understanding and respecting diversity to create harmony. The success of building a multicultural society depends heavily on the synergy between government policies and collective public awareness in nurturing plurality. The conclusion of this research emphasizes that strengthening tolerance literacy from an early age is a crucial instrument to counter radicalism and strengthen social cohesion for the continuity of an inclusive national identity.
