Adaptasi pesantren dalam mengembangkan pendidikan karakter modern

This study aims to explore how pesantren, as traditional Islamic educational institutions, are able to adapt to the changes of the times through the integration of modern educational systemsithout compromising their Islamic identity. Pesantren have advantages in shaping students’ character through the boarding system, the exemplary role of the kyai, and the implementation of religious values in daily life. In this context, the boarding system becomes a crucial element in the process of value internalization and sustainable character formation. However, in the contemporary era, pesantren are required to innovate in terms of curriculum, teaching methods, and educational management in order to remain relevant and effective. This study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method based on various academic sources related to the modernization of pesantren and character education. The findings reveal that the adaptation of pesantren to modern systems, such as the integration of general knowledge, the use of technology, and the application of innovative teaching methods, does not eliminate their distinctive characteristics. Instead, it strengthens their role in developing studentsho are religious, independent, and adaptable to changing times. Therefore, the integration of tradition and innovation represents an ideal model for developing character education in contemporary pesantren.
