Abstract

Indonesia is known as an archipelagic nation with a very complex diversity of ethnicities, religions, races, and cultures. In this context, the values of tolerance and pluralism are fundamental pillars for maintaining social integrity and harmony amidst differences. Traditional arts play a strategic role as effective cultural media for instilling, expressing, and preserving these values. This research aims to deeply examine the role of Reog Ponorogo art as a platform for expressing pluralism and to identify the values of tolerance contained within every aspect of its performance. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a narrative analysis approach and literature review. Data was collected through the exploration of historical stories, legends, as well as studies of various relevant literature and documents. The analysis results indicate that Reog Ponorogo is a representation of cultural acculturation that blends various elements of tradition and belief into a unified whole. The symbolism in the costumes, dance movements, and the presented storyline reflect the spirit of unity in diversity. Furthermore, the values of tolerance, mutual cooperation, and inclusivity are clearly depicted in the philosophy of this art form. In conclusion, Reog Ponorogo functions as an effective medium for conveying moral messages in instilling an attitude of respecting differences, thus playing an important role in strengthening the spirit of "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" in society.
