Adolescent mental health, particularly among students in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), has become an important issue due to various psychological challenges they face, such as academic pressure, adjustment to boarding school life, strict regulations, and social interactions with peers. These conditions may lead to stress, anxiety, and even depression if they are not properly managed. This study aims to examine the role of the concept oftazkiyatun nafsas a preventive approach to maintaining the mental health of students in pesantren. The method used is a literature review by analyzing various sources related to mental health and the concept oftazkiyatun nafsfrom the perspective of Sufism. The results indicate thattazkiyatun nafshas strong relevance in maintaining students’ mental balance through the process of self-purification, self-control, moral development, and the strengthening of spiritual awareness. Practices such asmuhasabah(self-reflection),mujahadah(striving against negative desires), remembrance of God (dhikr), worship, and the habituation of positive behavior can help students manage emotions, strengthen mental resilience, and develop better character. Therefore, integrating the values oftazkiyatun nafsinto the pesantren educational system can serve as an effective strategy for maintaining students’ mental health and developing individuals who are spiritually, emotionally, and socially balanced
