Demokrasi di indonesia: antara harapan dan realitas
Abstract
Democracy is a system of government that places the people as the highest authority. Indonesia, as a democratic country, has experienced various political and social dynamics from the reform era to the present time. Since the fall of the New Order regime, democratic values such as freedom of expression, public participation, and transparency have grown significantly. This study aims to analyze the gap between expectations and reality in the practice of democracy in Indonesia. The method used is a literature study by reviewing various scientific sources, journals, and academic publications related to democracy and governance. The results show that normatively, democracy in Indonesia has functioned relatively well, as seen in the implementation of regular elections, the existence of multiple political parties, and increased public awareness of political rights. However, in practice, there are still many challenges and problems. These include money politics, corruption, low quality of public participation, and weak law enforcement, which often undermine democratic values. In addition, the spread of misinformation and political polarization also affect the quality of democracy. Therefore, joint efforts from the government, institutions, and society are needed to strengthen democratic practices and realize a more substantive, inclusive, and just democracy in Indonesia.
