Indonesia as the axis of the world
challenges and opportunities in new geopolitical currents
Abstract
Indonesia's strategic geographical position as an archipelagic nation located between two oceans and two continents plays a crucial role in global geopolitical dynamics, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. This study aims to analyze Indonesia's challenges and opportunities as a global axis in the new geopolitical landscape. The method used is a literature study, reviewing various relevant scientific sources. The results of the discussion indicate that Indonesia's strategic position provides significant opportunities to act as a bridge and counterbalance in global power competition, particularly between the United States and China. However, Indonesia also faces various challenges, both traditional ones such as maritime security and territorial disputes, and non-traditional ones such as technological disruption and climate change. In facing these dynamics, Indonesia needs to strengthen its national geostrategy through maritime sector development, enhancing national resilience, and optimizing the role of independent and active foreign diplomacy. Furthermore, strengthening national identity and public geopolitical awareness are crucial factors in maintaining national stability and sovereignty. With a comprehensive and sustainable approach, Indonesia has great potential to realize its vision as a global axis that plays an active role in maintaining regional stability and the global arena.
