With increasing demand of energy all over the world and depletion of fossil fuel reserves, it has become very difficult to achieve sustainable development. Greenhouse gas emissions are triggered by the overuse of fossil fuels that also cause climate change and environmental deterioration. One of the major environmental impacts is “the excessive use of fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere” which includes global warming and erratic climate conditions. The growth of renewable energy is essential for the environmental sustainability and for the decrease of the dependence on non-renewable sources of energy. Indonesia has a lot of renewable energy potential because of its location and climate. The long term security of energy can be ensured through the use of renewable energy sources like solar, biomass, hydro, geothermal and wind energy. Scientific innovation and sustainable technical progress can improve renewable energy technologies. Besides, green technologies in tropical architecture can be used to improve the energy efficiency of a building. that the implementation of passive design strategies and renewable energy sources can reduce cooling energy use and improve thermal comfort on campus. This research discusses the role of green technology and renewable energy in the development of sustainable energy systems and green infrastructure in Indonesia. The research methodology used is a qualitative descriptive research which is a review of the literature and analysis of the scientific references . The results show that renewable energy technologies such as biomass utilisation, photovoltaic solar panels and hybrid power systems have a great potential to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and promote sustainable development. Furthermore, collaboration between government agencies, academia, and the community is critical to accelerate the application of renewable energy technology across a variety of industries and to develop a more sustainable future.
