Transcending ideological divides
Re-examining National Identity from a Marxist Critical Perspective

National identity is often constructed as a single tool that romanticizes its static nature, aiming to unite the nation's diversity. However, in this era of globalization, where conditions are rife with social and economic inequality, this identity often clashes with the realities of life that are shaped by strata and class interests. This study aims to identify and re-examine the concept of Indonesian national identity from a Marxist critical perspective to see the distance between class structure and economic factors in influencing the strength of national identity. The method used is qualitative with a literature study approach and dialectical criticism. The results of the study indicate that national identity often functions as a "false consciousness" that obscures class confusion within society. Despite this, many found that Indonesia has a unique blend, namely the values of social justice (the core of Marxist teachings) have been applied to the fifth principle of Pancasila. This study concludes that to transcend ideological barriers, national identity is not only understood as a cultural symbol, but must be realized in justice that has a real impact so that the identity has meaning for all social levels.
