Abstract

The rise of digital technology has significantly transformed everyday experiences for people, particularly in how they communicate, access information, and engage socially. While advancements in technology offer numerous benefits, they also lead to challenges including the dissemination of misinformation, online harassment, hate speech, and a decrease in digital ethics among youth. This situation highlights the necessity of fostering informed and responsible citizens through Civic Education. The purpose of this research is to explore how Civic Education contributes to developing citizens who are knowledgeable, critical thinkers, responsible individuals, and demonstrate strong character in a digitally driven world. A qualitative methodology was adopted for this study, utilizing a literature review approach that involves analyzing a variety of resources, including books, academic journals, and scholarly articles that relate to the research subject. Findings from the study reveal that Civic Education plays a vital role in cultivating informed and ethical citizens by promoting democratic values, tolerance, nationalism, digital literacy, and ethical practices in social media. Furthermore, Civic Education aids students in recognizing their rights and responsibilities as citizens while promoting the prudent and accountable use of technology. Nonetheless, there remain several obstacles in its execution, such as inadequate digital literacy, the adverse effects of social media culture, and insufficient oversight of technology usage. Hence, collaboration among families, educational institutions, communities, and government is essential to enhance character development and digital literacy, aimed at nurturing a generation that can leverage technology wisely while upholding ethics and accountability as responsible citizens.
