Abstract

This article aims to examine the relevance of Sufism in addressing the challenges of modern life, characterized by increasing materialism, hedonism, individualism, and various spiritual and moral crises. Modernity, supported by advances in science and technology, has provided numerous benefits to humanity; however, it has also led to spiritual emptiness, stress, anxiety, depression, and the loss of life's deeper meaning. This article employs a literature review approach by examining various scholarly sources discussing Sufism, particularly the concepts of zuhud (ascetic detachment) and tawakkal (trust in God). The discussion reveals that Sufism offers an important spiritual solution for modern individuals. Zuhud teaches people not to regard worldly possessions as the ultimate purpose of life but to place material wealth in its proper position without excessive attachment. Meanwhile, tawakkal encourages individuals to exert their best efforts while entrusting the outcomes to Allah. These values help individuals control worldly desires, reduce social pressures, and cultivate inner peace and psychological resilience amid the intense competition of modern society. Therefore, Sufism remains relevant as a means of spiritual development, enabling individuals to achieve a balance between material needs and inner fulfillment while pursuing a meaningful life in both this world and the hereafter
