Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has significantly influenced societal lifestyles, including within the realm of Islamic boarding school education. This article aims to analyze the transformation of character education for students in the digital era from an Islamic educational perspective. A descriptive-qualitative literature review method was employed. The study reveals that Islamic boarding school continue to play a strategic role in shaping the character of students through Islamic values such as discipline, responsibility, humility (tawadhu’), and Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah). Digital media can serve as a valuable tool for religious outreach and learning if utilized wisely. However, negative impacts—such as moral degradation, social media addiction, and diminished social interaction—pose distinct challenges for Islamic boarding school education. Consequently, integrating Islamic boarding school education -based character education with Islamic digital literacy is essential to enable student to navigate the changing times without losing their Islamic identity. Strengthening digital literacy, providing guidance on technology usage, and ensuring educators set a good example are crucial factors in empowering student to use digital media productively, critically, and responsibly. Thus, the transformation of character education in Islamic boarding school education should not focus solely on technological proficiency; rather, it should aim to cultivate a generation possessing noble character and adaptability to modern developments, while remaining steadfast in Islamic principles. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for developing character education models within Islamic boarding school education that are responsive to the challenges of the digital era.
