Abstract

The phenomenon of the alternation of day and night is one of the signs of Allah’s greatness that is frequently mentioned in the Qur’an. However, the understanding of this phenomenon is often limited to a theological perspective without comprehensively examining the development of astronomical science. Therefore, an integrated study that combines the perspectives of Qur’anic exegesis and science is needed to achieve a more comprehensive understanding. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of day and night in the Qur’an through a tafsir (Qur’anic interpretation) approach and to examine its relationship with modern astronomical concepts. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method using a library research approach. Data were collected from Qur’anic verses related to the phenomenon of day and night, classical and contemporary tafsir literature, as well as various relevant scholarly journals and academic articles. The findings indicate that the Qur’an presents the alternation of day and night as a sign of Allah’s power, reflecting the order and balance of the universe. From an astronomical perspective, this phenomenon is explained as a result of the Earth's continuous rotation on its axis. The integration of classical tafsir, contemporary tafsir, and scientific approaches provides a broader understanding and demonstrates the harmony between divine revelation and science without diminishing the primary function of the Qur’an as guidance for human life.
