Interactions between the opposite sexes in higher education pose a challenge, particularly for active Muslim students. Islamic law, which governs interactions between non-mahram men and women, is often violated by what is commonly regarded as ordinary social interaction. The purpose of this study is to examine the challenges faced by Muslim students when attempting to normalize relationships with the opposite sex, analyze Islamic law on this topic, and offer suggestions on how to improve interactions from an Islamic perspective. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative literature review drawn from academic works, the Quran, hadith, and the views of Islamic scholars. According to the study, there are several ways to normalize interactions on campus, including premarital romantic relationships, khalwat, and ikhtilat. The primary driving factors are the impact of social media, social pressure, a lack of religious guidance, and students’ poor understanding of the laws governing gender interactions. Although Islam does not prohibit interaction between men and women, there are certain boundaries that must be observed. Among the proposed solutions are improved religious education, an active role for da’wah organizations, character development, and the internalization of Islamic values.
