The free halal certification policy aimed at Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is one form of government involvement and support in strengthening the national economy within the halal industry. The programme is called “SEHATI” or Free Halal Certification and is implemented by the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) using a self-declaration mechanism with the aim of accelerating the process for MSMEs to obtain halal certification. The research method employed is a normative legal analysis using a legislative approach and a literature review of several sources related to the topic. The research findings indicate that SEHATI is underpinned by robust regulations such as Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance, Government Regulation No. 39 of 2021, and Ministerial Regulation No. 20 of 2021.This programme strengthens the competitiveness of MSMEs at national and international levels, provides protection for consumers, particularly Muslims, and reinforces the branding of halal products in Indonesia. Despite these advantages, there are several challenges, such as a lack of support, administrative barriers, and the digitalization of these services. Therefore, strong coordination between all parties is essential, along with education and the provision of support to ensure the SEHATI programme runs effectively, equitably, and is felt by all SME operators in Indonesia.
