Abstract

Unethical financial behavior remains a major issue across many sectors of economics and accounting. When individuals lack adequate financial knowledge and are unable to exercise self-control, they are more likely to make irrational financial decisions and engage in unethical practices. Therefore, understanding the factors that influence ethical financial behavior is essential. This study aims to examine how financial literacy and self-control influence individual financial behavior as a means of preventing unethical practices. The research employs a literature study method by reviewing scientific articles, national and international journals, and academic publications related to financial literacy, self-control, financial behavior, and ethics. The findings indicate that adequate financial literacy enhances individuals’ ability to manage their finances wisely and responsibly. In addition, self-control plays a crucial role in regulating emotions and external pressures that may trigger unethical financial behavior. The integration of financial literacy and self-control contributes to the development of more ethical, rational, and sustainable financial behavior. This study is expected to provide theoretical contributions to the development of financial behavior and ethics studies and serve as a reference for future research in the fields of economics and accounting.
