Abstract

In the modern era, technological advancements and a materialistic outlook on life have led to a moral and spiritual crisis within society. This situation is characterized by a decline in moral values and social concern, as well as an increase in behavior that deviates from Islamic teachings. This study aims to analyze the role of Sufism in the formation of moral character and its contribution to shaping a Muslim personality of strong character and integrity. This study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach, collecting data from various journals, books, and scientific articles relevant to the concepts of Sufism and ethics. The results indicate that Sufism plays a crucial role in the process of ethical development through the purification of the soul (tazkiyatun nafs) and the control of base desires. The concepts of takhalli, tahalli, and tajalli serve as the primary stages in the formation of noble ethics and the enhancement of an individual’s spirituality. Sufi values such as sincerity (ikhlas), patience (sabar), trust in God (tawakkal), asceticism (zuhud), and humility (tawadhu’) can shape a Muslim individual with integrity, responsibility, and social concern. Thus, Sufism can serve as a solution to the moral and spiritual crises of the modern era and remains relevant for application in daily life.
