Curriculum development in contemporary Islamic education is a strategic aspect in responding to social changes, scientific advancement, technological progress, and the challenges of globalization. Islamic education curriculum is no longer solely oriented toward mastery of religious content, but is also directed toward character building, enhancing 21st-century skills, and developing students’ critical, creative, and problem-solving abilities. This study aims to analyze curriculum development models and approaches from the perspective of contemporary Islamic education and examine their relevance to current learners’ needs. The method employed in this study is library research through the analysis of various scientific references related to Islamic education curriculum development. The findings indicate that the Separated Subject Curriculum, Correlated Curriculum, Learner-Centered Design, and Problem-Centered Design significantly contribute to creating adaptive and contextual learning processes. In addition, academic subject, humanistic, technological, and social reconstruction approaches support the implementation of integrative and responsive educational practices in accordance with contemporary developments. The integration of these models and approaches provides opportunities for Islamic education institutions to produce graduates who possess not only strong religious understanding but also intellectual, social, and spiritual competencies required to face modern life challenges. Therefore, Islamic curriculum development must continuously be innovative, flexible, and responsive to the changing needs of society.
