Abstract

Religious moderation has become a national strategic agenda amidst rising radicalism, extremism, and intolerance that threaten interfaith harmony in Indonesia. This study aims to examine the role of Islamic teachers in instilling the value of religious moderation in students, along with strategies and challenges for its implementation. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review, analyzing various literature and previous research findings. The results of the discussion indicate that Islamic teachers play a central role through two main channels: exemplary behavior (uswah hasanah) and planned learning strategies, including curriculum integration, dialogue-based learning, utilization of local wisdom, and digital media literacy. However, its implementation still faces challenges, such as teachers' low understanding of moderation, the influence of an intolerant environment, social pressure, and a lack of teaching materials. This study recommends synergy between the government, educational institutions, and civil society to systematically and sustainably strengthen the capacity of Islamic teachers.
