Students’s mental health has become an important issue in education because students often face academic, social, and emotional pressures that can affect their psychological well-being. Academic demands, competition, concerns about the future, and environmental pressures frequently cause students to experience academic stress, anxiety, and even burnout. One psychological ability that can help students cope with these pressures is self-compassion. Self-compassion is an individual’s ability to treat oneself with kindness, understand that failure is part of human experience, and maintain balanced awareness of negative emotions without excessive self-blame. This article aims to discuss the role of self-compassion in student’s mental health based on a literature review from various recent studies. The findings show that self-compassion has a positive relationship with student’s psychological well-being. Individuals with high self-compassion tend to be better at managing emotions, reducing self-criticism, coping with academic stress adaptively, and developing a more positive mindset toward themselves. In addition, emotional intelligence, supportive environments, and empathetic communication also play important roles in supporting students’ mental health. Self-compassion helps individuals build healthy self-acceptance so that students do not easily feel hopeless when facing failure or academic pressure. Therefore, developing self-compassion is important in students’ lives to support mental health, emotional regulation abilities, and a better quality of life.
