Financing or credit risk is one of the main risks faced by financial institutions, both Islamic and conventional banking in Indonesia. This risk occurs when customers or financing partners are unable to fulfill their payment obligations as agreed, which can result in losses for the lending institution. This article discusses the concept, causes, impacts, and strategies for managing financing risk in the context of modern financial institutions. Based on a literature review, high levels of Non-Performing Financing (NPF) or Non-Performing Loan (NPL) are indicators of weak credit risk management. The main influencing factors include a lack of thoroughness in debtor eligibility analysis, unstable macroeconomic conditions, and weak internal supervision. The study results indicate that the application of prudential principles, diversification of financing portfolios, and strengthening credit assessment systems can significantly reduce the risk of default. These findings are expected to assist financial institutions in designing more effective and sustainable risk mitigation policies.
