Meaning is a central aspect of linguistic study because it determines the success of communication. The study of sense relations and semantic change is relevant for understanding the ongoing development of the Indonesian language. This article discusses forms of sense relations, including synonymy, antonymy, hyponymy, homonymy, polysemy, and ambiguity, as well as types of semantic change covering generalization, specialization, amelioration, pejoration, metaphor, and metonymy. It also examines the role of denotative and connotative meaning in everyday language use. This research employs a literature-review method with a descriptive-qualitative approach. The findings show that sense relations contribute to accuracy and nuance in word choice, while semantic change arises from technological development, socio-cultural change, globalization, and speakers' need for euphemism. These results confirm that the Indonesian language is dynamic and continuously adapts to the times.
