Abstract

The development of digital technology has opened wider investment access for the public, including Muslims in Indonesia. While this ease of access has encouraged investor growth, it has also given rise to the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) phenomenon, which has the potential to drive irrational investment behavior. This article aims to examine the relationship between the FOMO phenomenon and Islamic economic principles in the context of Muslim investment decision-making in the digital era. The method used is conceptual analysis, using a literature study approach and a comparative analysis of Islamic economics, financial psychology, and investment behavior. The study results indicate that FOMO-based investment behavior has the potential to contain elements of gharar (excessive uncertainty) and maysir (speculation), which contradict the main principles of Islamic economics. Furthermore, FOMO also has the potential to threaten the objectives of the maqasid of sharia, particularly hifz al-mal (protection of wealth). Strengthening Islamic financial literacy and digital literacy is the main solution to enable Muslims to make wiser, more rational investment decisions in accordance with Islamic values.
