The spread of religion in Southeast Asia

Abstract

The spread of religion in Southeast Asia has played an important role in shaping the cultural and religious diversity of the region. This study aims to understand how far the spread of Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity has occurred in Southeast Asia. In this study, writer used a case study approach and analyzed relevant history, documents and literature. The research results show that the spread of these religions occurred over centuries and was influenced by factors such as cultural interaction, trade, migration, politics, and missionary activities. Hinduism became the oldest religion to enter Southeast Asia and found a place in the Hindu kingdoms in the region. Buddhism then spread through trade relations and the influence of the kingdoms that adopted this religion. Islam entered through trade and spread by Arab traders, as well as successful missionary missions. Christianity, came from European colonialists. The spread of these religions is also influenced by local responses to new religions that enter. This research provides important insights into the spread of religion in Southeast Asia and the contribution of religion in the region. With this journal, it is hoped that readers can find out the history of the entry of religions in Southeast Asia
