Social identity is a complex construct that is influenced by factors such as gender, ethnicity, and social class. In an analysis of the influence of popular culture on gender identity, this article examines the role of character representation in films and lyrics in music in shaping societal views about gender roles and related norms. The construction of a strong, independent character and the expression of diverse gender experiences through music are able to break down the traditional boundaries that bind gender identity. This article explores how popular culture can represent social class inequality and how this can influence people's perceptions of social stratification. However, in the midst of the positive influence of popular culture in shaping social identity, it must be recognized that there is a risk of stereotype reproduction, harmful social norms, and even homogenization of identity in popular culture. In dealing with this complexity, this article emphasizes the need for a critical approach in understanding how popular culture influences social identity. Therefore, this article encourages readers to see popular culture as a source of learning and in-depth study of the construction of social identity in the midst of technological developments and globalization.
