Keywords:
Carok, Cultural paradox, Madura, IslamAbstract
Carok is one of the two cultural wisdoms preserved in Madura. The second cultural wisdom is kerapan sapi. The former view tends to be blunt, meaningless in a cultural context. This research tries to maximally provide a philosophical mistaken understanding of the carok tradition as a Madurese tradition by obtaining a special and honorable place. This research is a literature study using the thesis “Tradisi Carok Pada Masyarakat Madura Menurut Perspektif Teori Relativisme Moral” written by Liberatus Pogolamum. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative using content analysis. The results showed that the object of this study which assumed that carok was a tradition and culture had failed interpretation. Based on the failure of this interpretation, it causes negative stereotypical discourse to be consumed by the public. The first finding is that the failure begins with his perception of interpreting carok as culture. Second, in interpreting carok the object of this research does not consider epistemological aspects. Third, ignoring the context of the values of the Madurese community known as the sarungan.
