Al-Qur’an dan Hadist adalah referensi utama dalam menjalankan syari’at Allah. Nabi Muhammad SAW merupakan hasanah bagi umat muslim. Nabi SAW menjadikan persoalan-persoalan yang muncul. Pencatatan hadis pada masa Nabi, Para Sahabat dan Tabiin masih berupa kumpulan hadis dan belum mencakup berbagai surah seperti yang kita kenal sekarang. Meskipun pencatatan hadis ini sudah ada sejak lama sejak asal mula aslinya. Namun, sejak Nabi Muhammad SAW, hadis tersebut tetap dilestarikan dan dilindungi sejak awal perkembangannya. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan adanya tulisan-tulisan pribadi dalam bentuk tulisan serta tradisi penyampaian hadis kepada orang lain atau masyarakat. Sejak zaman Nabi SAW mendampingi generasi tabi'in.
