Literacy is one of the basic abilities that is essential in the world of education. Literacy includes the ability to read, write, speak and think critically. The higher a person's interest in literacy, the higher the quality of their education. This article will discuss the importance of literacy in education, and in the development of students' character, highlighting how literacy plays a role in the formation of moral values, ethics and also social and emotional abilities. Literacy not only helps improve students' abilities in the academic field, but also helps them understand themselves and others. Low interest in literacy can also result in social problems, problems that conflict with culture or society.
