Islam Dan Demokrasi: (Prespektif Muhammad Husein Haikal)
Abstract
Pada tahun 1970-an, peran Islam dalam politik global berubah secara signifikan. Kelompok Islam mulai muncul sebagai sumber inisiatif kemajuan dan perubahan politik , bukan hanya menjadi elemen reaktif dalam komunitas politik. Selama beberapa dekade terakhir abad ke-20, Organisasi Islam memainkan peran penting dalam kebangkitan Islam. Mereka mewakili organisasi sosial-politik alternatif yang dapat dipercaya dan menerima inisiatif dari pihak lain. Gerakan-gerakan ini mencerminkan aspirasi ganda dari kalangan profesional berpendidikan modern dan masyarakat Muslim yang menginginkan partisipasi lebih besar dalam proses politik dan terciptanya masyarakat yang lebih Islami. Oleh karena itu, organisasi baru ini berhasil menggabungkan dua tren utama pada akhir abad ke-20: kebangkitan demokrasi dan kebangkitan agama.
