Mengenal Situs Religi dan Sejarah: Makam Wali Lima di Jawa Timur
Abstract
In East Java, the tombs of the Five Saints are places of religious pilgrimage because of their historical and spiritual values. These tombs also have different stories that show the struggle of the saints to spread the faith. The Five Saints in East Java are considered to be the spreaders of Islam in the archipelago, and their tombs are evidence of the struggle for da'wah which had a significant impact on the development of Islam in Indonesia. The saints introduced Islamic teachings and local culture in their da'wah, so that it was more easily accepted by the community. The five saints in East Java, namely Sunan Ampel [Sunan Raden Rahmat], Sunan Giri [Sunan Maulana 'Ainul Yaqin], Sunan Bonang [Sunan Raden Maulana Makdum Ibrahim], Sunan Drajat [Sunan Raden Qasim], and Sunan Gresik [Sunan Maulana Ibrahim], have played a role in developing the foundation of Islam through education, literature, and social approaches. They developed da'wah methods that were in accordance with local culture, so that Islam could be accepted peacefully by the Javanese community. They opened Islamic boarding schools as centers of Islamic education, created Javanese songs with an Islamic feel, and utilized art and culture as a means to spread religion. Their traces are still visible today, such as tombs that are places of pilgrimage, old mosques, and religious customs that are still preserved by the community. Not only in religion, Wali Lima also supports in the social, economic, and political fields.
