Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a vital role in shaping students’ character and spiritual values. Although various modern learning approaches continue to evolve, traditional methods such as lectures and drills are still widely applied by educators. This paper explores the strengths, weaknesses, and effectiveness of these conventional methods in the context of PAI. The lecture method is considered efficient in delivering structured content, especially when explaining abstract or normative religious concepts. Meanwhile, the drill method is viewed as beneficial for reinforcing memorization and developing skills in religious practices. However, both methods tend to offer limited student engagement and rarely encourage critical thinking. Therefore, this article emphasizes the importance of applying lecture and drill methods wisely, combining them with participatory and innovative teaching strategies. When implemented appropriately within an adaptive pedagogical framework, traditional approaches remain relevant in enhancing the contextual and meaningful quality of PAI learning.
