Peran Pondok Pesantren dalam Membangun Karakter Mahasiswa

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Islamic boarding schools in shaping student character in the modern era. As Islamic-based educational institutions, Islamic boarding schools not only provide religious education but also serve as a platform for moral, spiritual, and social development. In the context of university students, pesantren offer an alternative environment that promotes discipline, independence, leadership, and social solidarity. Through a descriptive qualitative approach, this article analyzes five main dimensions of pesantren’s contribution: strengthening spirituality, instilling work ethics, training leadership, fostering solidarity, and engaging in social roles. The findings indicate that pesantren effectively shape students into resilient and morally upright individuals, prepared to be agents of change in society. As transformative spaces combining academic and Islamic values, pesantren remain relevant amid globalization and the moral challenges faced by today’s youth.
