Kecanduan media sosial dan dampak buruk yang mengancamnya di kalangan remaja
Abstract
Social media addiction among teenagers has become a hot issue that has a significant impact on mental health, including an increased risk of anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and decreased self-esteem. Excessive use of social media, especially with the motive of seeking social validation, comparing oneself, and escaping from personal problems, exacerbates psychological symptoms and reduces the quality of life of teenagers. Factors such as gender, intensity of use, and social and family environments also influence teenagers' vulnerability to the negative effects of social media. Additionally, social media addiction is associated with concentration disorders and declining academic performance. This study aims to thoroughly examine the impact of social media addiction on adolescents' mental health, highlighting symptoms such as anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, decreased self-esteem, and declining academic performance. The results of the meta-analysis and literature review indicate that excessive social media use, particularly more than three to five hours per day, is significantly associated with increased symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, and loneliness, as well as decreased self-esteem.
