Abstract

This study examines the use of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach to strengthen students' understanding of diagram-related concepts in mathematics lessons within the "Madinah" Grade 1 class at MI Syihabuddin Dau. The study employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted over two action cycles. Data collection instruments included comprehension tests and observation sheets. The results indicate a significant improvement in student understanding, evidenced by an increase in the average score from 65 to 87.22, with an N-Gain of 0.46 (46.48%). These findings demonstrate that the PBL approach effectively strengthens students' grasp of diagram concepts in mathematics. The study aimed to assess the improvement in students' understanding of diagram material through the PBL approach in the "Madinah" Grade 1 class at MI Syihabuddin Dau. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) method with two cycles was utilized, employing comprehension tests and observation sheets as instruments. The results show improved student understanding, marked by a rise in the average score from 65 to 87.22 and an N-Gain score of 0.46 (46.48%), falling into the moderate category. Beyond enhancing learning outcomes, the implementation of PBL also fostered student engagement during the learning process. Thus, the Problem-Based Learning approach is effective in improving understanding of diagram concepts in elementary school mathematics.
